Ubisoft® opens Innovation Unit in IIT Bombay Research Park

Ubisoft inaugurated a signal collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) by unveiling the first Ubisoft Innovation Unit in India within the IIT Bombay Research Park on July 22, 2018.  The collaboration is to pioneer Game Automation using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence through research work.

The event witnessed the presence of eminent guests including the honorable Ambassador of France to India – HE Alexandre Ziegler, the Honorable Consulate General of France in Mumbai – Mr. Yves Perrin, the Director of IIT Bombay Professor Devang Khakhar, along with the MD of Ubisoft India Mr. Jean-Philippe Pieuchot.

The idea is to connect IIT Bombay talents to the most creative minds in the gaming industry. As elaborated by Professor Devang Khakhar, Director, IIT Bombay - “We look forward to bringing together the academic expertise that IIT Bombay has to offer with Ubisoft’s proven leadership in applying technology into entertaining millions of people all over the world”. He also added that IIT Bombay would soon initiate a multidisciplinary academic program in Data Sciences, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence that will be informed by industry needs.

“This year marks the tenth anniversary of Ubisoft’s presence in India. Our commitment to India is now strengthened by this new initiative with IIT Bombay. Our ambition in the country is to contribute towards the development of Indian Video Gaming ecosystem by partnering closely with the top colleges and Universities in India – and what better than IIT Bombay who is recognized to produce the best talents in the country. This collaboration with IIT Bombay Research Park is a demonstration of this ambition and we look forward to some great achievements together,” says Jean-Philippe Pieuchot, MD – Ubisoft India.

France and India have recently been concentrating their efforts into creating strategic partnerships through cooperation in educational fields. We heard HE Alexandre Zielgler, Ambassador of France to India make a note of this and also go on to add that “by choosing IIT Bombay, Ubisoft has contributed to developing an Indo-French ecosystem towards innovation and creativity and I hope that this enterprise paves the way to many other partnerships.”

Across the Powai Lake, IIT Bombay has been pursuing enhanced industry interaction by hosting corporate R&D labs on its campus, in its upcoming Research Park.  These co-located companies commit to collaborate with IIT Bombay on R&D or education and training.  The Research Park is now pleased to welcome Ubisoft as its next client.
